Under various names there has been a pub on the site of the King Henry VIII Inn since 1597.

It wasn't, however, the best of starts with one Christopher Border indicted for 'keeping a common tippling house' without a licence.

The present structure dates back to 1647.

More recently the King Henry VIII Inn achieved some notoriety as the place where the infamous Brinksmat bullion robbery was planned.

The nearby pond was even dragged by the local police in their hunt for the proceeds.
